Not all work from home business opportunities are created equal. So what separates the best Internet business from the rest and makes a top Internet business opportunity?

According to Forbes magazine, 40 million people will be looking for a work from home Internet business within the next 3 to 5 years. Personally, I believe this number increased by a huge percentage because of the economic slump.

Prior to being part of my current home Internet business, I had tried and failed miserably at 4 different work from home Internet businesses. I mean the ones I gave my best shot.

Unfortunately and inevitably, not all those 40+ million aspiring Internet entrepreneurs would be lucky to find an opportunity that would work for them. So count yourself lucky if you’re reading this. Why?

Back then, I wish someone would have been kind enough to share with me the tips I’m going to share with you now. I call them the ‘7 Characteristics Every Successful Home Business Must Have‘.

So you must find the correct answers to these questions before you sign up. So here you are; pick them and use as a benchmark…

Question No. 1:

Does The Company Have A Unique, Valuable Product with a High Demand in the Marketplace?

You want a product that is different in the marketplace. A product that is difficult to copy by your competitors. This is so that the market does not become saturated with the product. The product must offer value to your customers. Answer this question honestly: If the product did not have the the business opportunity attached, would you be proud to represent it? Does it offer value to you and your potential customers on its own?

Every now and again you hear of: “This is the greatest nutritional supplement ever to hit the market place”. I love nutritional supplements and what we have on the market now is excellent. But does the world really need another magic juice used the pre-historic tribes of the ‘Kubungu’ people? The answer is ‘No’.  Besides, companies like Amway and Shaklee already have a their products all over place, so to speak. Plus thousands of other companies I don’t have space to list here.

Do you really believe that you can pluck the nutritional supplements market out of Amway’s hand by joining up with the ‘Newest’ nutritional company that just launched three months ago?

So look for a product that is unique and of value in the market and promote them will the strength and tools you can lay hands on and you’ll be successful.

Question No. 2:

What Is the Internet Marketing Company’s  Compensation Plan?

You’re looking for a balanced, dual compensation plan; one that pays you huge commissions upfront as well as residual commissions on the backend. It make a lot of sense… and here’s why…

Most Internet marketing companies either pay you a huge commission upfront and low residual commissions, or the other way round, with low upfront commissions and high backend residuals. You need to find a company that pays you high commissions on both ends.

Here’s why this is important when looking for a work from home Internet business.

You need cash flow when your business is in ’start up mode’ so that you can push this money back in to build the business, unless of course you have huge initial capital outlay to ‘push you through’. Most people begin home-based businesses on a part time basis, with the intention of building the business to a full time status. Then they would leave their current employment and focus full time on the Internet home based business.

However, if you are going to be making $50 and $100 commission checks along the way, it will not only be difficult for you to reach your goal, it will be almost impossible to do it. You will run out of steam, and capital, long before you reach your goals.

So look for high, in-demand products that sell from $1000 upwards. That way you make upfront commissions of $500 upwards. Also look for compensation plans that pay you 50 percent of sales made as well as residual commissions on  your team’s efforts.

It also serves as huge motivation for you to go ahead and achieve more results. And residual commissions so that you can retire and when you are not able to work again, you still enjoy the rewards of your efforts.

If you choose a company with a compensation plan that pays you huge commissions upfront, here is the downside: You will make a good income quickly but then you will not be able to build your business  at your own pace as you will have to be producing month in, month out.

As your team grows, you will begin to leverage the efforts of your team and thereby scale down on your marketing efforts because your residual commissions will be growing as well.

You can then even enjoy more of the things you love in life and never have to worry about money again. Super!

Question No. 3

Does the Internet Business Have a Proper Marketing System and Training?

This is absolutely crucial. Sadly to say, this is where most Internet marketing companies fail badly. What systems and training does the company have in place so that you can become a master marketer?

At the end of the day, although important, it’s not about the best product or the most profitable comp plan. It’s about the ability to market effectively and to the right customers so that you can make sales. If you don’t know how to promote your business, you will go broke – quickly. Make sure you’re comfortable with the marketing system in place.

The marketing  system must be completely easy to duplicate so that anyone can plug and get results

If do not like  marketing to your friends and family and this is the company’s means of marketing, then be wary. Ensure that you can leverage the power of the Internet through the company’s training, else you are going to struggle to compete in today’s computer age.

Question No. 4:

What Information Can You Get About the Company’s Management?

A lot of people ignore this to their own detriment, or at least do not do their homework.

Find out who are behind the company and products. Do they have a proven track record in this industry? What is their mission statement and does it tally with your overall short- and long-term vision? Perish the thought but you don’t want to wake up one morning to find out that the leaders of the company have bolted with the company profits.

Check on the Internet marketing company with the Better Business Bureau, BBB, if the company is US-based, to ensure that you are dealing with people with a track record of trustworthiness and integrity.

Question No. 5:

Global Expansion

We all know that more than 90 percent of Internet business originate from the US. Does the company and product have global appeal? Or can the business be done only in the US? Marketing information products attract less red tape than consumables like nutritional products. This is because consumables like supplements have too much legislation on them from country to country.

Ensure that the company has plans to expand globally because if the products are ‘limited’ to one geographic location, soon your competition is going to become too fierce.

Question No. 6:

Does the Company Give Back?

Are they involved in charities or programs to help others make their lives better? Does the company give back to the community to help make the future better? Find out if the company you’re about to join are doing any of these things.

Question No. 7:

Does the Company Have Ongoing Training And Support?

I probably left the best for the last. This an extremely important question. Make sure you have one-on-one and group training designed to dramatically shorten your learning curve and reduce the number of variables that come with ‘trail and error’. Unparalleled support is mandatory. Would you get a community of leaders motivated enough to help you succeed if your sponsor were not available today?

Does the business rely solely on your sponsor to train you and help you out or is there a community of selfless leaders who can help with questions about marketing? Or any questions for that matter?

Is there a community spirit for the company’s forum where you can go, learn about problems on marketing that other members faced and how they overcame it?

When you are starting out on a new business venture, you’re going to face challenges. However, do not let this scare you and put you off. Having said that, during your learning curve, it’s priceless to have a group of people to whom you can turn and get the much needed support.
