“Talk about your own mistakes before criticizing the other person”[1]
In the Bible, in Matthew 7:4-5, Jesus said: “Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ and behold, the log is in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye”.
Now that is quite a strong statement. However, it ties in very well with the discussion at hand in this post. A bit more on that in a minute…
I don’t know about you but I struggled a lot in my attempt to build a legitimate business from home before I saw the light at the end of the tunnel. And that has been only in the last twelve(12) months. Some people would like to call it failure but I’d rather paraphrase Thomas Edison and say that I did not fail. I just found more than 100 ways that does not work when it comes to even legitimate home business opportunities.
It’s a common fact to hear and read success stories of men and women in our industry who have made it big and are living the dream. Success stories like people making five and six figures monthly and calling the shots on life.
This appears very attractive to newbies who come into the Internet marketing industry.
However what people fail to mention (at least to my knowledge and experience) to the new guy who got started is the struggles and failures they themselves have endured en route to realizing their dreams.
Lots of times we fail to acknowledge our own shortcomings and then lay into the new member of our team who is not pulling their weight and getting on with their marketing efforts.
We have to criticize ourselvesĀ and admit our mistakes first, that we did not have it all together in our first year or two, that we also made some mistakes, probably worse mistakes before we got to where we are. This serves as a huge source of encouragement to those who are just getting started, or those who are still in the trenches waiting for their light bulbs to come on.
Am I by this saying that everyone who starts a legitimate home business opportunity must get ready to graduate with First Class honors, from the ‘University of Hard Knocks ‘ before they succeed? Certainly not by any means! However it is also true that failure is also an option especially in your first year, and for some people even beyond.
Like Mike Dillard said, “We all suck in the beginning!”. Nonetheless your learning curve and failure could be drastically reduced, (perhaps eliminated – yes it’s possible) if you find a mentor who has been there and done it, and model their behavior. And, also plug into a system that is simple, easy to follow and works. For as it were, it’s no use re-inventing the wheel.
